Construction Accidents

Your Construction Accident Lawyers for New York City, Long Island, and the Greater New York Area Since 1968

By its very nature, construction is a dangerous job. Construction workers offer their employers their very best under dangerous conditions. If the time comes for your employers to reciprocate, and you feel that you aren’t getting what you deserve, call us at RGLZ. We have a nearly 5 decade history of representing workers who have suffered from injuries due to construction accidents, including brain, back and neck injuries, disfigurement, paraplegia, quadriplegia, amputation, disfigurement and other permanent disabilities. We also currently advocate for New York’s scaffold law up in Albany through our very own Michael Levine, president of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.

Since our founding in 1968, RGLZ has won hundreds of millions of dollars for injured construction workers in New York. Because construction workers often perform demolition work and excavation on older buildings, they are also the most common victims of toxic exposure to dangerous substances, such as asbestos. These types of life-altering injuries and illnesses aren’t adequately covered by New York’s workers’ compensation laws, and a worker has a right to have an experienced New York construction accident lawyer investigate an accident in an effort to understand every possible cause of his or her injury.

Accidents can happen anywhere and at any time on a construction site. Many of our past clients have suffered injuries in accidents resulting from:

  • Falls from or through roofs of buildings
  • Being run over and crushed by construction equipment
  • Falls from structures other than roofs, such as scaffolding, ladders or windows
  • Collisions with motor vehicles
  • Mechanical defects in lifting and operational equipment
  • Fires and explosions involving severe burns
  • Trench collapses that bury workers in soil

FAQs

Am I entitled to sue if I am injured on the job?

The Labor Law in the State of New York protects all workers who are involved in the construction, alteration of demolition of any sort of structure. If you are injured in a fall from a ladder or a scaffold, or due to some unsafe or dangerous condition on a construction site, the owner and/or general contractor of that site may be responsible for your injuries.

What is the interplay, if any, between workers’ compensation benefits and a lawsuit?

If you are injured in the course of your employment on a construction site, you are entitled to receive workers’ compensation benefits from your employer. You are also entitled to sue the owner and/or general contractor of that site for your injuries. If you recover money for your injuries in a court of law, you may be required, depending on the circumstances, to reimburse your workers’ compensation carrier a percentage of whatever it paid out on your behalf in the way of medical bills and/or lost wages.
